Multi-purpose Facility:   up to $2 million

QUESTION NUMBER II

Shall the School District of Shiocton, Outagamie County, Wisconsin be authorized to issue pursuant to Chapter 67 of the Wisconsin Statutes, general obligation bonds in an amount not to exceed $2,000,000 for the public purpose of paying the cost of constructing, including related site work, and equipping an addition for a new multi-purpose room on the high school wing of the school district?

FITNESS CENTER, WEIGHT ROOM

The fitness center will be equipped with both fitness machines, as well as weight-and strength-training equipment.  The cost of these items are included in the requested amount.

Treadmills, stair climber, and stationary bikes will be purchased to equip the fitness area, while free weights, bench press, and squat racks are currently planned for the weight area.

Maintenance and replacement of the equipment is planned for in the general operational budget.

MULTI-PURPOSE FACILITY (MPF)

One-half of the proposed MPF will be a gymnasium and the other half will be a work-out area complete with fitness and weight-training equipment.

The two halves are joined by a wall of window for complete visibility AND an overhead door for fluid physical access between the two learning spaces.

The MPF is designed to meet the following needs:

* ACADEMIC  -  because the fitness center and gym area are connected by a wall of windows and large, overhead door, our Physical Education teachers will now have the ability to differentiate their instruction for students; because there will be increased spaced and an increased number of machines and equipment all students will be able to be engaged in learning and developing fit lifestyles during the entire class period.

Additionally, the increased space can provide opportunities for indoor recess and free-up other learning environments for larger, whole class instruction.

* ATHLETIC -  currently, the wrestlers are practicing in the cafeteria, spitting in the sink and often times forced to place their rolled up strips of mat in the the fire exit area.  For safety, as well as instructional needs, the new gym area will provide the wrestling program  -  Varsity to youth - with a dedicated practice space. Ceiling mounted hoists will facilitate an easy means of storing the mats between uses.

Additionally, spring sports will be able to benefit from the increased indoor practice space as the new gym area will be equipped with drop-down batting cages for baseball, softball, and golf.

*COMMUNITY  -  Our very own "Y", the fitness and weight room will be open to the community before and after school, and into the evening, as well as during the weekdays from 12noon - 1PM.  The center will also be open on the weekends.  Hours of operation will largely follow the hours requested via the community survey completed in Dec 2017.

Additionally, community youth programs, including Hoops Club, WR Club, and others will benefit from earlier practice times as a result of the increased practice space.   Hunter Safety and Archery clubs will also benefit from greater access to learning spaces as athletic programs are moved into this new facility, increasing access to other learning environments within the school building.

GYM

The gym area will be space for a multitude of athletic programs, including Varsity to Youth wrestling.  Currently, the wrestlers are practicing in the cafeteria, which continues to cause both safety and sanitary concerns.  These student-athletes need a dedicated space equipped to support their learning needs.

Additionally, the gym space will be used during the school day for Physical Education and other related academic studies.  Student-athletes in Gr 7 & 8 will benefit from the increased space so as not to have to report to the gym at 6AM for basketball practice.

Too, various other organizations such as Hoops Club, will benefit from the increased, indoor practice facilities.
